Frequently Asked Questions

  • In general, we cater for anyone with gynaecological or obstetrics needs.

Beyond providing full general gynaecological and obstetric services, we specialise in Reproductive Immunology. This specialised support is for anyone who has experienced:

    • Repeated miscarriages

    • Immunologic infertility

    • Unsuccessful implantations (associated with IVF)

    • Mid-trimester, or third-trimester pregnancy loss, or stillbirth, without obvious cause or explanation.

    • Any gynaecological or obstetric conditions with immune factors or immune conditions.

  • Yes. It is essential for you to have a referral letter from your General Practitioner (GP) or Specialist. It is a requirement if you wish to claim part of the consultation fee from Medicare.

It is also essential for us to communicate and send reports to your GP, as per usual practice.

Your GP can resolve general issues with you - SRI us not a GP practice.

A referral is usually only valid for 12-months. If you’ve received a referral from a specialist, however, it is only valid for 3 months.

Please note, renewal of the referral letter and obtaining an updated letter is the sole responsibility of the patient, not our Practice.

  • Yes. Masks are still mandatory in all healthcare settings including ours.

If you attend without a mask, you will be required to leave immediately and return wearing one.

You will not be seen by the doctor if you are not wearing an appropriate mask.

You will be asked to leave the premises if you are not wearing an appropriate mask.

  • We understand that things can change at short notice, requiring that you cancel or reschedule your appointment.

So that we’re able to allocate your appointment slot to another patient on our waiting list, we request that you provide at least 7 days’ notice for a reschedule or cancellation of your appointment.

This timeframe allows us to offer the appointment slot to a different patient, who may have been waiting for some time.

Where less than 7 days’ notice is given for a reschedule or cancellation of your appointment, we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee.

Thank you for taking this courtesy to our practice and to other patients who require our services.

  • Yes - we provide our services to both interstate and international patients, with telehealth consultations available.

These telehealth consultations are consultative services only - we recommend that you also engage a local medical practitioner to support and oversee your care.

  • If appropriate for you, we provide:

    • Advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery

    • Pelvic floor surgery

    • Cervical cerclage (suture)

    • All obstetric procedures (incl. C. sections).

You can learn more about the services we provide here.

  • The testing provided by Sydney Reproductive Immunology is regularly updated, ensuring our methods are at all times the most up-to-date and comprehensive. Testing is always tailored to the needs of the individual patient, and is never cookie-cutter or generic.

  • We provide the whole range of treatments in an individualised plan, depending on tests results, clinical findings and assessment outcomes.

We provide monitoring and reviews throughout the pregnancy as clinically indicated to ensure the best possible outcome.

The duration of any course of treatment is individualised depending on your underlying conditions. Safety in all treatments is paramount to the care we provide.

  • We tailor a plan to provide appropriate monitoring and support throughout your pregnancy. This ensures you’re making good progress and any interventions or changes to the original plan can be incorporated.

  • Generally, if a script is needed this will be provided at the time of the consultation.

If, for any reason, a patient requests a script at time in between consultations, your doctor must review your medical records and decide if it is clinically appropriate. Sometimes we arrange a consultation or bring a future consultation date forward.

If a consultation is not required, there is a small fee chargeable to the patient to cover the staff and doctor’s time.

  • No – a positive pregnancy test does not indicate complete implantation. Implantation is an ongoing process which continues throughout most of the pregnancy.

If you have been advised on a course of treatment by SRI to support implantation and placentation, please consult with your doctor at SRI before modifying or ceasing treatment.

  • All consultations, procedures, and other services are charged on an individual basis, with quotes given prior to proceeding.

  • We treat your personal information as strictly private and confidential. We will only use it for purposes directly related to your care and treatment.

See our full privacy policy here.

  • Our team will endeavour to respond to emails as soon as we can, but we have a few guidelines that might change how and when you hear back from us. You can read these guidelines below:

    • Although we’ll always try to respond right away, many factors including volume of emails received and our internal triaging will impact how quickly we’re able to get back to you.

    • If you’ve submitted a request for an initial consultation, your appointment will be allocated once we receive your filled in new patient forms and a referral letter.

    • Emails are not a substitute for a consultation with a doctor. Any medical enquiries will be answered in a consultation, not via email.

    • In an emergency, please do not contact us via email - our email inbox is not monitored at all times. In an emergency, please visit a hospital emergency department or suitable medical practitioner.

    • To help us quickly find the best solution for you, please be specific and to the point in your emails, including only your request and relevant details. Please send a new email for each new enquiry, rather than responding to old email threads.

    • Any inappropriate emails will not be responded to.

    • Some administrative requests (non-consultation services, e.g. photocopying, scanning, and emailing results) will attract a nominal admin fee. We’ll respond with the details of this fee for your approval before actioning your request.

For more details on how to get in touch, including our contact details, please see our Request a Consultation page.

  • Every person is different, and therefore requires a personalised management and treatment plan.

At Sydney Reproductive Immunology, we work to find the right approach for you personally, as one size does not fit all!

  • Dr. Matthias is highly qualified and experienced, and uses this deep expertise when suggesting the best management plan for you.

Treatments discussed on social media platforms may be inappropriate for you for a wide range of reasons. Dr. Matthias will discuss your options and put his suggestions/recommendations to you, bearing in mind:

    • your clinical picture,

    • your test/investigation results, and,

    • your concerns and wishes.

Following this discussion and process of shared decision making, we’ll mutually agree on a plan of management that’s tailored to you.

  • We do our utmost to help our patients and treat them with the respect they deserve. In return, we ask that you treat our team with that same respect and consideration, as they work to support you and other patients of SRI.

We have strict anti-bullying, anti-harassment policy and zero tolerance to aggressive and bad behaviour towards our staff whether in person, via e-mail, or on social media. This is in line with both Federal and NSW law.

In the extremely rare cases where patients do engage in this behaviour, we reserve the right to ban them from our premises and all services provided by SRI.

  • By engaging with SRI you agree that you are using our services based on the information provided in your consultations, and available via our website.
